Trivia
Part of
Oh, God! is a 1977 comedy film starring George Burns and John Denver. Based on a novel by Avery Corman, the film was directed by Carl Reiner from a screenplay written by Larry Gelbart. The story centers on unassuming supermarket manager Jerry Landers (Denver), chosen by God (Burns) to spread his message despite the skepticism of the media, religious authorities, and Landers' own wife (Teri Garr). The film inspired two sequels, Oh, God! Book II (1980) and Oh, God! You Devil (1984), both of which featured Burns reprising his role, but with no other recurring characters from the original story.

Cute sequel, but not as good as the original movie God (George Burns) manifests to a little girl in Los Angeles (Louanne) whose well-to-do parents are separated (Suzanne Pleshette & David Birney). It appears the LORD wants to use her for advertising. βOh, God! Book IIβ (1980) lacks the novelty of the original 1977 film and is underwhelming, marred by a sitcomy vibe, but itβs also cute and kinda heartwarming. Itβs more of a drama with amusing touches than a comedy. In other words, what would REALLY happen if the Creator started appearing to a girl in Los Angeles? βGodβ does have a few nuggets to share but, to be expected, thereβs some political correctness not in keeping with biblical Christianity. The filmmakers naturally wouldnβt want to offend their potential viewers. Meanwhile Suzanne is winsome as usual and Birney is convincing as the likable father. The movie runs 1 hour, 33 minutes and was shot in Los Angeles. GRADE: B-/C+
