Trivia
Part of
Found footage anthology films centered around a number of disturbing VHS tapes that are discovered by innocent viewers and the possessive influence of the videos over those who see them. Realized by a collaboration of various filmmakers and different casts, the installments are mostly standalone in nature; though recurring elements indicate the same fictional villain as the source for all of its videos.

The VHS series of found footage horror flicks have been a campy, at times gruesome, carnival ride over the years. Its been a bumpy ride too, with inconsistent scripts, that range from decent to downright awful. Thankfully the latest iteration VHS Beyond is one of the good ones'. Its zany, out there, splattery but intelligently thought through and novel enough, to keep you watching from start to finish. I thought the opening tale was particularly well done, whilst the whole dog thing (watch and you'll see what I mean), was certainly pretty weird. In summary, VHS Beyond is one of the better VHS franchise flicks. If you like this sort of overstated, out there horror, its definitely worth a look.
61/100 Much of this is done in modern times so it lacks the aesthetic of other VHS entries making it rather mediocre. "Stork" - A police squad's raid turns into a nightmare. The best of the bunch. Violent, visceral and highly intense. "Dream Girl" - Outstanding gore but dragged. "Live and Let Dive" - Birthday skydiving event vs. alien invasion. Shocking moments in between overly shaky cameras. "Fur Babies" - Annoying and disgusting. "Stowaway" - Journalist hides on a UFO. Nearly as good as the first. Considering the setup, the wraparound ended with a dud. - DrNostromo.com
