"Addiction is an industry."
Three stories about the world of opioids collide: a drug trafficker arranges a multi-cartel Fentanyl smuggling operation between Canada and the U.S., an architect recovering from an OxyContin addiction tracks down the truth behind her son's involvement with narcotics, and a university professor battles unexpected revelations about his research employer, a drug company with deep government influence bringing a new "non-addictive" painkiller to market.

Crisis (2021) follows three people caught in the opioid epidemic: a federal agent chasing a heavy-handed drug smuggler, a mother with her own history of substance abuse trying to find out what happened to her son, and a scientist who realises a new drug isn't as safe as its makers claim. The three stories twist into one by the end. Critics came down hard on it, but I found it more honest than the usual lone-hero-beats-big-pharma thriller. It isn't hard-hitting, it offers little hope, and it wastes Indira Varma, but the casting suits the bleak setting, and it's predictable without ever being boring. 3.5/5.
