Jab Harry Met Sejal

Cinephile deep dive

The take

Imtiaz Ali directs. K.U. Mohanan behind the camera. Lady Bee scores. Aarti Bajaj cuts. A commercial under-performer on release. Produced in India. Dialogue in English, Hindi.

Trivia

Things worth knowing

• 1Earned back only 93% of its budget on initial theatrical — a commercial disappointment on release.
• 2Released 9 years ago.
• 3Dialogue crosses 2 languages: English, Hindi.
• 4Directed by Imtiaz Ali, shot by K.U. Mohanan. Note their partnership — DPs and directors often return to each other across a career.
• 5Original score by Lady Bee. Worth a dedicated listen after — most great films lose half their impact without the score.
• 6Editor Aarti Bajaj shaped the rhythm. On an edit-heavy film, the editor does more to control your pulse than the director.
• 7Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma and Aru Krishansh Verma carry the top of the cast.
• 8Marketing tagline: "What You Seek is Seeking You.".
• 9IMDB entry: tt5997666 — still the authoritative cross-reference for credits and trivia.
